Inteli's formative assessment: a model for enhancing student learning

Here at Inteli, we have adopted formative assessment as a response to the need for a more complete and inclusive model, which allows us to accompany each student in a personalized way, recognizing the educational trajectory as a continuous process.

Evaluating is, by its nature, a challenge. When placed in the context of Inteli's disruptive education, everything becomes even more complex. Formative assessment focuses on the student's evolution, highlighting the importance of understanding each student as a unique individual, with their own starting points and destinations.

I always say that it's a very important tool for understanding that one person's 7 is the same as another's 10. This allows for a clearer perception of each person's development, making assessment an instrument for valuing students' personal achievements throughout their educational journey.

Our way of doing things

At Inteli, assessment goes far beyond simply awarding grades. It is made up of several elements, including the assessment of projects, which are at the heart of our project-based learning (PBL) methodology.

This approach challenges us to deeply understand what the artifact delivered by the student reveals about their learning. Unlike a traditional exam, where the answers are usually binary (right or wrong), the assessment of a project requires a complex and complete understanding of the learning process.

The assessment process is intensive for teachers, but extremely rich in educational insights. We use authoring tools such as Adalove, for submitting work and detailed feedback, and also GitHub, for monitoring individual contributions to code projects, allowing both quantitative and qualitative assessment of student work.

Students are constantly assessed through a combination of group deliveries, self-studies, problem setsand even traditional exams - which carry less weight, but are important for preparing them for external challenges such as ENADE and selection processes. This continuous assessment, together with self-assessment processes, fosters the development of self-knowledge and critical thinking skills.

Implementing formative assessment at Inteli requires a high level of commitment from our teachers, who dedicate hours to preparation and feedback. This effort is fundamental to the success of our model, which aims for academic excellence and the maturity and autonomy of our students.

Our experience has shown that as the academic community adapts and understands the process better, all the hard work is worth it!

Formative assessment at Inteli is an educational philosophy that empowers our students to become protagonists of their own learning journey, preparing them for academic challenges and a life of continuous learning and personal fulfillment.
