What is the students' first year at Inteli like?

It's already December and we'll soon be getting ready to welcome our 2024.1 class. The freshmen arrive here with lots of doubts, expectations and dreams. So I decided to tell them a little bit about what they experience in their first year at Inteli.

The first few months are a phase of adaptation to a new learning environment. Students are faced with a very different academic model from the traditional one, they are challenged to develop autonomy and to be responsible for building their own knowledge.

Our mentor teachers play a key role in this phase, serving as guides. They help students adapt to the PBL methodology and understand what it takes to design and develop a project.

In the second half of the first year, students embark on a journey to explore the basic content that is essential in any computing course. They learn the fundamentals, the solid base on which they will build their knowledge and careers.

At the end of the four modules of the first year, the students' progress is noticeable. They really learn how to develop a project and become much more prepared to solve complex problems with the help of technology.

One of the most exciting parts of the first year is the instant contact with project partner companies. Practice often comes before theory, and interaction with the job market is an integral part of our approach.

In July, students also have the opportunity to experience the corporate world in a vacation internship. This practical experience allows them to apply the knowledge they have acquired and understand how their skills translate into the real world.

First Year Projects - A Unified Experience

One of the highlights of the first year is that students from the Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering and Software Engineering courses study the same content in the four modules, which are divided as follows:

Module 1 - Digital Game Development

Students immerse themselves in algorithms, programming techniques and user experience. They explore requirements engineering and testing, creating a digital game that must be challenging and creative.

Module 2 - Developing a Web Application

Here students immerse themselves in web engineering, covering both the frontend and the backend. They develop skills in systems design and analysis, as well as working with databases. The result is a functional web application.

Module 3 - Building Logic for Prediction with Artificial Intelligence

The third module leads students to explore the principles of machine learning, predictive models and data analysis. They unlock the secrets of artificial intelligence, preparing themselves for the challenges of the future.

Module 4 - IoT (Internet of Things) Solution Prototyping

Time to dive into computer architecture and operating systems and explore electronic circuits and computer networks. Here students build prototype solutions for the IoT.

If you'd like to find out more about the prototypes created by our first-year students, just visit our website. Remember that all the projects created are open source and available for download on the Inteli website. As well as being a portfolio for students and teachers, the prototypes can be used by any other organization/individual.

The first year at Inteli is an incredible journey, full of challenges and learning opportunities. As our students adapt, explore and create, we are shaping the future leaders of computing professionals.
