Those of us who are younger remember well what the role of technology professionals in companies was like a few years ago. The professional was represented by the old nerd, a profile seen as more technical, isolated, introspective and self-taught.
Everything starts to change when technology becomes an expanded field and a strategic area for companies. The disruptive business models of the giants Microsoft, Meta, Google, Apple and Amazon, for example, have served as vectors of change in diverse markets such as entertainment, health, advertising, consumption, among others.

Is it worth studying technology if everything changes so quickly?
The technology sector is one of the fastest growing in the country, with a growing demand for digital solutions that make life easier for consumers and increase business efficiency. By 2025, Brazil is expected to have a shortage of 530,000 technology professionals, according to a survey by Google for Startup. The report, produced in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Startups (Abstartups), points out that 53,000 professionals will graduate annually between 2021 and 2025, but the demand for new talent during this period will be 800,000.
The qualification of human capital in technology is one of the sector's greatest challenges. The technology professional of the future needs to go beyond technical knowledge to solve complex problems. Knowing how to communicate, work in a team, deal with moral and ethical dilemmas, develop resilience and make the best career choices are skills that are increasingly in demand in the market.
In other words, it is essential to seek academic training in technology, even if there is a distorted narrative that it is unnecessary to go to university in this area. Research by McKinsey reveals that 96% of the founders of unicorns in the US have completed higher education, with the vast majority having a master's, doctorate or postgraduate degree.
In Brazil, a study carried out by Dataminer with 100 founders of the 42 main startups in the country shows that all are graduates and 57% had completed postgraduate studies before founding their company.
Is there a formula for choosing a technology college?
Okay, so by now we've said that technology courses are the new Management, that every business is a technology business, and that going to university is still the best way forward for those who want to be the leaders of the future.
