Known for reinventing the audiovisuals of small, medium and big names in Brazilian funk, the channel Kondzilla YouTube channel was the first to reach 50 million subscribers and 30 billion views in the country. The project began with Konrad Cunha Dantas, out of a desire to produce art for young people from the periphery.
Kond took part in the second day of the onboarding of Inteli's new students, in a chat led by our CEO, Maíra Habimorad. An Inteli fan, Kond told us the truth: "This group here is very powerful, capable and passionate about transformation". What an honor, right?
Here are some highlights from the conversation. Spoilers? There were also many insights into technology, career, innovation and resilience.
How it all began
From an early age, Kond has always had a unique affinity with entertainment. Raised in a favela in Guarujá, he recalls the first steps on this journey: "I started liking entertainment at a very young age, when my mother gave me a CD player and I started putting together my playlists. My lawyers say I was pirating, but I was actually spreading culture in the periphery."
Kond started out directing quality music videos for artists from the funk "ostentação", a subgenre from São Paulo that exalts clothes, jewelry, drinks and luxury cars among young people from the favelas.
His audience soon exploded. In 2015, he released the music video "Baile de Favela", by the artist MC João, the first to surpass 100 million views.
Currently, Kondzilla is a holding company that includes a production company and a record label for artists, the production of series, documentary films, a news portal specializing in funk and a school for young talent.
Technology, AI and Digital Production
According to the research How AI is changing storytellingby Globant, around 12% of organizations in the entertainment sector have already introduced AI tools into projects for content production, bringing advantages in translations, consumer analysis, design development and melody creation.
When it comes to music, creative AI is considered one of the most disruptive technologies. Independent researchers and the world's leading technology companies, such as Google and ByteDance, have developed more than ten music templates with the tool that allows users to generate personalized tracks in seconds.. As a result, the generative AI market in the music segment is expected to reach $2.66 billion by the year 2032.
Kond talks enthusiastically about the infinite possibilities of creation and automation that Artificial Intelligence offersbut agrees with the music industry's concerns about the side effects related to intellectual property, privacy and ethics.
At Kondzilla, AI tools are used to analyze consumers' musical tastes, make predictions, list new artists, understand when they are generating results and the potential of each one.
Another highlight of the chat was the importance of balancing playful and artistic aspects with data analysis and techniquesand how this holistic approach is crucial in the contemporary world of entertainment and technology.
Resilience, Belonging and Transformation
Growing up in a suburb, Kond faced many challenges, but found faith and support in the community. He stressed the importance of spiritual and emotional balance to overcome life's adversities. "Success isn't about material goods, but about your ability to deliver and achieve," he said.
Kond spoke about the responsibility of being a leader of black and peripheral communities and his passion for creating high-quality content to please his audience. In 2023, Kondzilla, in partnership with BETC Havas, Mainstreet and Santeria, won the Silver Lion award in Cannes for the campaign Save the Favela. The audiovisual work denounces police violence and also seeks to reflect on racial crimes.
In closing, Kond gave a piece of advice to Inteli's young students: "Focus on what you're good at, find partners for what you're not, have fun at college and appreciate who's on your side in the trenches. It's not just about where you want to go, it's about who's on your side."
