I've spent a good part of my career recruiting talent for large companies in Brazil and Latin America. In recent years, I decided to dive into the world of higher education and, at the head of Inteli, I've been reflecting and learning a lot about the careers of the future.
We live in a world of many uncertainties with one absolute truth: mastering knowledge of technology is the best way to stand out in the job market in the coming years.
CEOs of the future already have something in common!
Those of us who are younger remember well what the role of technology professionals in companies was like a few years ago. In general, the IT area was seen as supporting business processes, playing a discreet role and often hidden away in small isolated rooms. The professional was represented by the old nerd, a profile seen as more technical, isolated, introspective and self-taught.
Everything starts to change when technology becomes an expanded field and a strategic area for companies. The disruptive business models of the giants Microsoft, Meta, Google, Apple and Amazon, for example, have served as vectors of change in diverse markets such as entertainment, health, advertising, consumption, among others.
As we like to say here at Inteli, every business has become a technology business. According to the Emerging Multinationals Research Network (EMRN)an international network of researchers, the pandemic has accelerated the digitalization of companies in ten years, with restrictions on movement and the concentration of services on the internet.
In a future that is literally just around the corner, technology will be integrated into every aspect of our lives and businesses. In this context, the way education approaches technology becomes of the utmost importance.
Here at Inteli, we spend many hours researching trends about the future. And our bet is that courses that combine computer skills, technology and business are the new Administration. Yes, the CEOs of the future will need to master technology to lead small, medium and large organizations.
Is it worth studying technology if everything changes so quickly?
The technology sector is one of the fastest growing in the country, with a growing demand for digital solutions that make life easier for consumers and increase business efficiency. By 2025, Brazil is expected to have a shortage of 530,000 technology professionals, according to a survey by Google for Startup. The report, produced in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Startups (Abstartups), points out that 53,000 professionals will graduate annually between 2021 and 2025, but the demand for new talent during this period will be 800,000.
The qualification of human capital in technology is one of the sector's greatest challenges. The technology professional of the future needs to go beyond technical knowledge to solve complex problems. Knowing how to communicate, work in a team, deal with moral and ethical dilemmas, develop resilience and make the best career choices are skills that are increasingly in demand in the market.
In other words, it is essential to seek academic training in technology, even if there is a distorted narrative that it is unnecessary to go to university in this area. Research by McKinsey reveals that 96% of the founders of unicorns in the US have completed higher education, with the vast majority having a master's, doctorate or postgraduate degree.
In Brazil, a study carried out by Dataminer with 100 founders of the 42 main startups in the country shows that all are graduates and 57% had completed postgraduate studies before founding their company.
Is there a formula for choosing a technology college?
Okay, so by now we've said that technology courses are the new Management, that every business is a technology business, and that going to university is still the best way forward for those who want to be the leaders of the future.
And how do you choose a college with an educational project that straddles the line between the present and the future? Since there are a lot of people who like math here at Inteli, we've come up with a very simple equation to help you in this very challenging process.
U = P* (G + E)
To explain: the ideal university should be equal to its purpose and that of the faculty, multiplied by guarantees that the institution gives you plus the experiences you will have.
In other words, think long and hard about whether your dreams and life projects match match with what the college defines as its mission. Do a lot of research into what guarantees the college offers you that after four years you will really be prepared for a challenging and ever-changing job market. Consider that this is one of the most important periods of your life, and that your experiences at university are extremely important in this journey of learning and personal and professional growth.
I can assure you that here at Inteli we are committed every day to giving our students the best possible experience to pave the way for their future. Browse our Instagram and our blog and discover why this is the place for young people who are going to transform the world through technology.
